Global: A light-hearted look at the darker side of things
Our book Democrisis, foretold the atomisation of politics in the post-cold war period and the coming technological impact of the sound bite and social media. The political process has become a marketing campaign to capture blocks of voters with empty promises, not policies or vision. Economics has also failed to deliver. Societies have a few extreme winners and the masses, who feel excluded. Add to that the decrepit state of the public sector and you have a perfect seething stew of discontent. Worryingly, there are alternatives to the Western liberal model that are delivering the economic part of the bargain. If these systems continue to deliver, could the decline of the rich liberal democracies become irreversible?
