Turning off the gas
Report Date: 19th October, 2018 The world is now a degree warmer on average than in pre-industrial times and at current linear (and thus possibly optimistic) trend means it should be 2.3°C warmer by the end of the century. That’s well beyond the International Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) gloomy +2°C scenario. This will negatively impact nearly every economy. Thankfully, technology both to conserve energy and to accelerate the switch to renewable fuels is close to an economic tipping point. Whether we’re past the point where further warming can be reversed is a moot point. More capital is going to be deployed to curb emissions anyway. Turning off the gas will be a major investment strategy and the sectors involved will provide superior returns over the next decade or so.
