The unsurprising lady surprises

Theresa May should easily get the required two-thirds of votes in parliament to call her surprise general election. The outcome should be a Tory government with a significantly improved majority, strengthening PM May’s hand over the Tory Eurosceptics in the process. This potentially smooths the path of Brexit negotiations and should take some pressure off sterling. But it will do nothing to alter the structural failings of UK inc, which Brexit (hard of soft) materially worsens.
