US election – sorting husks from chaff

The US election is over, bar the shouting (recounts and court cases). Unsurprisingly, Biden has won. But badly. His mandate is weak. And the Senate remains split for now. The Democrats did a poor job at capitalising on the hand which Trump and fate had dealt them. The election was theirs to lose. And they nearly did. It is not only the Republican party that must remake itself post Trump, but the Democrats too have to redesign themselves to broaden their appeal, which they singularly failed to do in this election.
