Populism substitutes gut feel ignorance for rational policy. In the guise of President Trump, it heralds an age of insularity rather than globalisation. It is bad for equities and bonds globally — but nowhere more than the US — and transforms the global currency landscape into one dominated by a weak US dollar and competitive devaluations elsewhere.
