Vaccine fail infects CDU

The CDU’s poor performance in last weekend’s state elections won’t trigger any immediate reckoning. But the problems still shine a light on the party’s longer-term challenges. Life post-Merkel is going to be hard. It also offers a glimpse into where the political landscape is shifting — both inside and outside Germany — to big spending, big government politics. Supported by central bank largesse of course. These policies might appeal to voters, but it also means higher taxes for business and lower productivity and growth.
